Tokyo: To bring a large number of women in politics, the Japanese government has passed the law. Under the new law, political parties have been appealed to keep the number of women and men candidates as good as possible. However, there is no provision of penalties for new parties which fail to do so. The representation of women in Japan is extremely low in politics.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had increased the involvement of women in Japan, which struggled with labor shortages, and this is their main economic policy. In the lower house of the Parliament of Japan, only 47 out of 465 members are women. Japan is far behind Myanmar and Gambia in terms of representation of women in government.
Japan's interior affairs minister Seko Noda said, "I hope this law will bring a big change in Japan's politics." He said that the women who hesitated in coming to politics will be encouraged by this law and they will all come in politics. Seko Noda was a member of the Drafting Committee that created this law.
However, there is also criticism about the fact that there has been no provision of penalties for parties who did not follow the rules in this law. Elections will be held for the Upper House of Parliament in Japan next year.
